LPN-ADN Nursing Admissions at Westminster

 

 

Eligibility

  • Any applicant who has been accepted into, and is currently or has previously attended, any other nursing program must call 303-404-5208 to determine eligibility.
  • Students who are ineligible to apply to the program due to failing grades are eligible to retake failed prerequisite courses after five years. 

Application Deadlines & Other Information

  • Students are admitted into the LPN-ADN program by a competitive process.

  • Immunizations are not required until admitted into the program. Once admitted, the Nursing Department will provide detailed information.
  • All applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The online application is available below (Step 5 - Apply to the Program). 

Steps to Apply

Step 1: Apply To Become A Student At FRCC

Step 2: Complete Prerequisites and/or Transfer Credit

Complete the following prerequisite coursework with a letter grade of “C” or higher(minimum grade point average of 3.0):

  • ENG 1021 English Composition I
  • PSY 2440 Human Growth and Development
  • HPR 1010 Dietary Nutrition (1 credit) recommended - or - HWE 1050 Human Nutrition (3 credits 
  • BIO 2101 Human Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credits with lab)*
  • BIO 2104 Microbiology (4 credits with lab)*
  • BIO 2102 Anatomy and Physiology II  (4 credits with lab)*
  • MAT 1120 Math for Clinical Calculations - or -MAT 1240 Math for Liberal Arts or higher
  • BIO 2116 Pathophysiology* Must be completed prior to or during Summer 2024
  • General Education Course in Arts & Humanities or Social & Behavioral Sciences

Retaking courses may result in a disadvantage. If prerequisite coursework is repeated, no more than one ‘D’ or ‘F’ in each of these courses is allowed.

*All science courses must have been completed within 10 years of entry into the nursing program.

If any prerequisite coursework was taken outside of the FRCC system, you must have your transcripts officially evaluated through the FRCC Office of the Registrar. All prerequisites must be transferred to your FRCC transcript before applying. Evaluations take up to 30 days to complete after the FRCC Registrar receives the official transcript and the Transfer Credit Evaluation Form. To be considered 'official', transcripts may not be issued to the student. Transcripts must be mailed directly from the previous college to the FRCC Office of the Registrar.

Students are responsible for making sure they are eligible to register for MAT 1120 if admitted to the program. Please discuss course eligibility with your academic advisor.

Step 3: Take the HESI A-2 Entrance Exam

The required subject areas are: English Language (Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Grammar), and Math. The Learner Profile ID (learning style and personality profile) is also required but will not be considered in scoring your application.

You must have a minimum cumulative score of 80% on the HESI to apply to the FRCC Westminster Nursing program.

The exam may only be taken twice in 365 days and must be taken within the last 5 years.  It is offered at the Testing Center at the Westminster Campus and Prometric Testing Centers.

Step 4: Work Experience as a licensed LPN (6 month min.)

You must submit the current verification form. Your employer must verify the number of hours worked as a licensed LPN (1000 hours minimum within the last five years). *Use one verification form for each position.

Step 5: Write Essay (Optional)

Topic included on rubric. This essay is only used as a tie-breaker.

Step 6: Apply to the Program

Applicants must upload electronic copies of the following documentation with your application:

  • FRCC Transcript
  • Transcript from Practical Nursing courses
  • LPN License
  • Employment Verification Form
  • HESI A-2 Admission Assessment Exam Cumulative Report
  • Essay (Optional)

Retain a copy of all documentation for your records. You will be notified of your placement status via the email(s) used when applying.

Incomplete applications will not be processed nor will the Nursing Department accept any additional materials after the posted deadline.
