If you're new to nursing, you can complete a certificate in three semesters or earn an associate's degree. If you're already a working nurse, we have an online RN-to-BSN program so you can get your bachelor's degree.

Our Programs

According to registerednursing.com, the Larimer Campus registered nursing program ranked #1 in Colorado and the Westminster Campus registered nursing program ranked #3 in Colorado.Practical Nursing Certificate
This program can be completed in three semesters and prepares you to be a licensed practical nurse (LPN). You'll be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX®PN). The practical nursing certificate program is offered at the Larimer Campus.

AAS in Nursing
This associate of applied science degree in nursing prepares you to become a Registered Nurse. Our rigorous classwork, clinical experiences and expert faculty will prepare you for this important career. You'll also qualify to take the NCLEX®RN exam. The AAS in nursing degree option is offered at both the Larimer and Westminster campuses. 

And according to RegisteredNursing.org, FRCC has two of the best RN nursing programs in Colorado.

LPN-to-ADN AAS in Nursing Completion
If you are already a licensed practical nurse, you are eligible to apply for our LPN-to-ADN (licensed practical nurse to associate's degree in nursing) completion option. You will be able to transfer your credit from your completed program to earn an AAS in Nursing.

RN-to-BSN Program
FRCC also offers an online RN-to-BSN program in which you will earn your bachelor's degree in nursing. You may apply for this program if: 

  • You have earned an associate's degree in nursing (ADN) and have a nursing license 
  • You have successfully completed the first semester of an ADN program, continue to be enrolled in the program and would like to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. 

The online modality allows for a flexible pathway to achieve the next degree level while continuing employment or seeking advancement in nursing practice opportunities.

AAS in Nursing Program

Program Locations: Larimer, Westminster

Total Credits: 71.5 credits (4 semesters)

Become a registered nurse (RN) through our four-semester program. Learn how to provide and manage care in various health care environments. You will study courses such as:

  • Fundamentals of Nursing
  • Pharmacology
  • Medical Surgical Nursing
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing

Under the supervision of faculty and licensed staff, you'll practice in our on-campus labs and off-campus in local facilities. With an AAS degree in nursing, you will be able to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) exam for licensure as a RN.

Admission into the RN program is a competitive process with additional requirements.

LPN-to-ADN AAS Program

Program Location: Westminster

Total Credits: 74.5 credits (3 semesters)

This unique degree option is for students who are already licensed as practical nurses in Colorado and have worked at least six months full-time. You can transfer your credit from a completed LPN program and finish an AAS in nursing. In less than two years, you will be able to reenter the workforce with more training and experience. You'll explore:

  • Advanced medical surgical nursing concepts
  • Microbiology
  • Pharmacology
  • Psychiatric/mental health nursing

Admission into the LPN-to-ADN program is a competitive process with additional application and requirements.

RN-to-BSN Completion Program

Program Location: Online

Total Credits: 120 credits (4 semesters)

Earn your bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) with our flexible online program. This program is made for students in the associate's degree in nursing (ADN) program and registered nurses. You'll complete the majority of the program online while also attending in-person practicums. For these clinical experiences, you'll work with nursing experts near where you live or work.

Take courses such as:

  • Integration into BSN Practice
  • Leadership in the Nursing Profession
  • Community Health Nursing Practicum
  • Nursing Research/Evidence-Based Practice

If you are an ADN student, you will have to take and pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) exam for licensure as an RN before you earn your BSN. You can do this during your program.

If you already have your associate's degree in nursing (ADN), you can finish this program in as little as two years (four full-time semesters). Our flexible schedule allows all of our BSN students to finish the degree in an extended time period.

Admission into the RN-to-BSN Completion program is a non-competitive process with additional application and requirements.

Certificate Details

Practical Nursing Program

Program Locations: Larimer

Total Credits: 43 credits (2 semesters)

Learn to provide nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse, physician or dentist. You'll learn to make health assessments and care for patients from newborns to the elderly. You'll study the skills you need for careers in:

  • Long-term care facilities
  • Clinics
  • Home care
  • Doctors' offices
  • Hospitals

You'll be eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (PN NCLEX®).

Admission into the Practical Nursing program is a competitive process with additional application and requirements.

Careers & Outcomes

Your certificate program in nursing can open doors for a career in nursing. Although some careers may require bachelor's and graduate degrees, you'll get a strong foundation with a degree from FRCC.

Effective March 28, 2024, the RN to BSN nursing program is a candidate for initial accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. This candidacy status expires on March 28, 2026.

Note: Upon granting of initial accreditation by the ACEN Board of Commissioners, the effective date of initial accreditation is the date on which the nursing program was approved by the ACEN as a candidate program that concluded in the Board of Commissioners granting initial accreditation.

The RN-to-BSN baccalaureate degree program in nursing at FRCC is accredited by the  Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).  

Professional Licensure Disclosure

Colorado participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) meaning Nurses can practice in other NLC states. The NUR program trains nursing students to obtain a Colorado State Nursing License. Once a graduate receives the Colorado State license they may then practice in the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. (NCSBN, 2024) 

Connecticut and the U.S. Virgin Islands are awaiting NLC implementation. Students may practice in these states once the compact has been implemented.  

The Nursing program does not meet the state licensure requirements for the states below, as graduates cannot practice in these states and U.S. territories without obtaining additional licenses. Alaska, California, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Oregon, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico. Pennsylvania and Guam have partial implementation of the NLC (NCSBN, 2024).

RN-to-BSN Completion Program
Jessica Halas
