Why Study Horticulture & Landscape Design at Front Range Community College?
We offer a variety of short-term, specialized certificates and two horticulture associate degrees:
- Horticulture and landscape technology
- Horticulture business management
A certificate or Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in horticulture and landscape technologies will prepare you to work in any of the three main branches of landscape horticulture: landscape contracting, landscape maintenance and production horticulture. These fields offer a range of careers and great self-employment opportunities.
Firsthand Experience
Our program prepares you to work in today's green industry. Our facilities give you real-world experience. Our 2,000-square-foot greenhouse is constructed just as a commercial greenhouse would be, from fans to fog nozzles, from sprinklers to drip irrigation.
For many of our certificates programs and for our degree programs, you will also complete an internship. There you will gain real-world, hands-on experience. We will help you connect with internships, and some of them may even be paid opportunities!
Scholarship Opportunities
As a horticulture student, you will have access to scholarships. The FRCC foundation grants scholarships, and many are reserved only for horticulture & landscape technology students. Degree Options
AAS in Horticulture & Landscape Technologies
Program Locations: Larimer, Westminster
Total Credits: 60 credits (4 semesters)
This AAS degree prepares you for a wide range of careers in landscape contracting and ornamental horticulture. You'll learn horticulture and landscape skills, techniques, and concepts. For this degree, you'll complete the horticulture certificate and choose one of these areas of specialization:
- Floral design
- Landscape design
- Greenhouse and nursery management
AS in Horticulture Business Management
Program Locations: Larimer, Westminster
Total Credits: 60 credits (4 semesters)
You'll explore a wide range of horticulture and landscape-related business practices. With this degree, you can transfer to Colorado State University in Fort Collins to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture with a horticulture business management concentration or complete the second half of a BS program at a four-year university.

Floral Design
Program Locations: Larimer
Total Credits: 18 credits (3 semesters)
Are you interested in working in or owning a floral business? This certificate will teach you about floral design and arrangements, flower shop management and flower care for tropical and indoor plants.

Total Credits: 18 credits (2 semesters)
You'll explore the biology of horticultural plants, soil conditions and fertilizer principles. This certificate program allows you to design your own degree with guidance from our experienced faculty.

Landscape Design
Program Locations: Larimer, Westminster
Total Credits: 18 credits (3 semesters)
This program prepares you for a career as a residential landscape designer. You'll study computer-aided design (CAD) or Sketchup software, sustainable landscape practices, landscape design and business practices. Students can begin this certificate at the Larimer campus, but all students must complete the certificate at the Westminster campus.

Greenhouse Nursery and Management
Program Locations: Larimer, Westminster
Total Credits: 17 credits (2 semesters)
You'll learn management aspects of the greenhouse and nursery industry. You'll become skilled at plant identification, propagation and plant health care. You'll also explore business concepts such as greenhouse operations and management.

Careers & Outcomes
Your degree or certificate can prepare you for a career in a variety of specializations. Although some careers may require bachelor's and graduate degrees, you'll get a strong foundation with a degree from FRCC.
Students learn in a state-of-the-art greenhouse
Our nearly 3,000-square-foot greenhouse was constructed and designed like a commercial greenhouse, from fans to fog nozzles, from sprinklers to drip irrigation. As students choose their projects, the 12 benches in the greenhouse are filled with their plants. In the Introduction to Horticulture class, for example, students run an experiment with eight similar plants, with four plants given a certain course of treatment and the other four treated in a different manner.
