Developing Safety Policies and Procedures for Your Company
The goal of this course is to provide safety professionals with the background needed to successfully write safety policies, programs and procedures for their company. After completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Identify key goals and concepts of technical writing;
- State the importance of technical writing skills for health and safety professionals;
- Explain the difference between policies, programs, procedures, and other health and safety (H&S) documents;
- Outline and develop content for H&S manuals, policies, programs, and procedures;
- Distinguish active voice from passive voice;
- Identify three (3) ways to make documents clearer and more concise;
- Use commas, parentheses, colons, em-dashes, and semicolons correctly;
- Identify words and phrases to avoid in technical writing;
- Edit a document for technical writing principles; and
- Name three (3) common pitfalls of technical writing.
