Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

A sound understanding of the graphic language for engineering drawings, known as GD&T, is critical for anyone who is creating or revising drawings and for anyone who is using those drawings to quote on, manufacture, or inspect products. This course utilizes the ASME Y14.5-2009 standard to which most recent drawings have been made. Changes made in the 2018 revision of the standard, released in 2019, will also be explained.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand the benefits of GD&T over coordinate dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Understand the myths and misconceptions about GD&T
  • Learn how to speak the language of GD&T correctly
  • Ensure specifying, manufacturing, and inspecting products to the maximum allowable tolerances and lowest manufacturing cost

Fluid Power

This class focuses on understanding the operation of actual fluid power equipment used in participant's workplaces. It includes detailed discussion of the basic components, relating the equipment schematics to the actual equipment, and understanding how the various components work together.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Learn about fluid properties:
    • pressure
    • temperature
  • Understand how the following all play a role in fluid power equipment:
    • hydraulic systems
    • pneumatic systems
    • safety
    • schematics

Advanced Concepts of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

This 8-12 hour course, based on ASME Y14.5, is for manufacturing personnel, inspectors, and engineering personnel who would like advanced training in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Topics covered in this advanced class are more complex and are often applied by specific industries, on specific types of components, or for specific situations.

Prerequisites: Recommended for those who have already completed the Fundamentals of GD&T course and have experience using it.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Learn how to approach :

  • concepts that may be problematic and complicated in nature, such as nonrigid parts, patterns of features as datum features, and more complex composite position and profile tolerancing
  • items not explicitly documented, or items that are ambiguous within the standard
  • more complex composite position and profile tolerancing

Hydraulics and Pneumatics

This course covers hydraulic systems and pneumatic systems. Course may span the fundamentals of hydraulic and pneumatic theory and application, system components and applications to pneumatic components, laws, operation and maintenance. Hands-on experience with construction of simple to intermediate circuits. Other topics covered may include contamination control, fluid conductors and seals and an introduction to cartridge and manifold construction in addition to troubleshooting.

As with all our courses Hydraulics and Pneumatics can be customized to expand from introductory level on up.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Theory
  • Basic Physics
  • Systems overview
  • Schematics including formulas and applications
  • Actuators
  • Reservoirs

  • G&M codes (these codes control the functions of CNC machines)
  • Production processes
  • Process controls
  • Manufacturing documentation

Print Reading

This course presents various types of prints, drawings, and schematics used in manufacturing, construction and industry. Participants will learn why drawings are needed, uses of drawings, and standard drawing information.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand and interpret dimensional drawings
  • Understand and interpret schematics
  • Use the border system to locate key parts or components in a drawing
  • Understand and interpret an exploded view drawing
  • Discuss each of the four basic drawings used to convey information
    • Single-line drawing
    • Pictorial diagram
    • Schematic diagram
    • Ladder diagram
