Customized IBM Training Courses

Register

Front Range Community College (FRCC) is partnering with IBM to provide technical training courses to Colorado IBM employees. These virtual courses combine instruction with hands-on labs facilitated by instructors with industry experience and subject matter expertise.

These courses are funded through a Skill Advance Innovation grant and are currently offered to IBM employees at no cost; simply register below to sign up for the course of your choice. All courses are capped at 20 IBM participants. If you try to register for a course that is filled, you'll be placed on a wait list and we will notify you if a seat is available before the start date.

Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email confirming your spot. If you do not receive this within a few minutes, please check any spam or clutter folders. Detailed course information, including the virtual link, will be sent at least 2 business days prior to training.

Change of plans after you registered? Submit a drop form at least 3 days prior to the start of training so we may open the waitlist.

AWS Academy Cloud Foundations

AWS Cloud Foundations is intended for students who seek an overall understanding of cloud computing concepts, independent of specific technical roles. It provides a detailed overview of cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, pricing, and support. 

Learning Objectives

  • Define the AWS Cloud and explain the AWS pricing philosophy.
  • Identify the global infrastructure components of AWS. 
  • Describe the security and compliance measures of the AWS Cloud, including AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM). 
  • Create a virtual private cloud (VPC) by using Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) 
  • Demonstrate when to use Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Lambda, and AWS Elastic Beanstalk.
  • Differentiate between Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS), Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS), and Amazon Simple Storage Service Glacier (Amazon S3 Glacier).
  • Demonstrate when to use AWS database services, including Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Redshift, and Amazon Aurora.
  • Explain the architectural principles of the AWS Cloud.
  • Explore key concepts related to Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon CloudWatch, and Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling.

Define Your Project’s Vision & Success Criteria Using AI

This 4-hour workshop is designed specifically for employees working in an organizational setting, focusing on how AI can streamline the process of defining a project’s vision statement and success criteria. By leveraging AI tools, participants will learn how to significantly reduce the time and effort needed to clarify their project’s essential starting points. This workshop emphasizes the importance of aligning project goals with organizational objectives, ensuring that the outcomes contribute meaningfully to the company’s broader mission.

Prerequisite

To ensure a smooth and productive experience in the class, please make sure you have access to your preferred AI tool before attending. This means having an active account and being able to log in to the AI tool of your choice. It is also recommended that participants have a basic understanding of their organization’s strategic goals, as this will help in crafting more relevant project visions and success criteria.

Define Your Prioritization Criteria Using AI

In this interactive, hands-on workshop, participants will explore how AI tools can streamline the process of defining project prioritization criteria. By the end of the session, attendees will have built a clear and actionable prioritization framework, using AI to sort, rank, and refine their criteria based on project goals, stakeholder needs, and resource availability. This workshop empowers professionals to leverage AI for more strategic decision-making and resource allocation in their projects.

Prerequisite

This means having an active account and being able to log in to the AI tool of your choice. It is also recommended that participants have a basic understanding of their project’s priorities, as this will help in crafting more relevant project prioritization criteria.

How to Write User Requirements

In this 4-hour workshop, participants will gain an understanding of the key aspects of high-quality requirements and distinguish between the 3 types of requirements. Through practical exercises, participants will create their own user-based requirements and receive valuable feedback to refine their skills.

Prerequisite

Not required, but highly recommended that participant has attended the Scrum Product Owner training. 

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the 3 types of requirements.
  • Learn common pitfalls in writing user requirements and how to avoid them.
  • Write user-based requirements with clarity, including user statements, acceptance criteria, and tasks.
  • Practice peer review and refinement of user requirements.
  • Create at least four user requirements that can be used in a real-world project.

Build your Agile Backlog using AI

In this interactive 4-hour workshop, participants will focus on building a well-organized backlog of epics using AI tools. The session will guide attendees through the process of identifying and structuring high-level epics that serve as the foundation for future user stories and requirements. The emphasis will be on using AI to help prioritize epics based on business value, project goals, and stakeholder needs. Unlike the upcoming How to Write User Requirements course offered in November, this session is centered around backlog structuring and prioritization, not on writing detailed user requirements.

Prerequisite

To ensure a smooth and productive experience in the class, please make sure you have access to your preferred AI tool before attending. This means having an active account and being able to log in to the AI tool of your choice. It is also recommended that participants have a basic understanding of their project’s priorities, as this will help in crafting more relevant project prioritization criteria.
Recommended: Students have taken a vision and prioritization criteria course (courses offered in October).

Improve Your User Requirement Writing with AI

This advanced 4-hour interactive workshop builds upon the foundational concepts introduced in the How to Write User Requirements course. Participants will learn how to utilize AI tools to enhance their user requirement writing process, focusing on refining clarity, consistency, and precision. Through hands-on exercises, attendees will apply AI to improve the quality of their user requirements, ensuring alignment with project goals and user needs. By the end of the session, participants will have a set of improved user requirements, leveraging AI for both drafting and refinement processes.

Prerequisite

Participants must have completed the How to Write User Requirements course or have equivalent foundational knowledge of user requirements and their structure.

Course Delivery Format

Each of the courses will be delivered in an online/virtual, instructor-led format to you, by instructors with industry experience and expertise in the subject.

Registering for Courses

Select the ‘Register' button by each course. Enter the required information for each class you wish to register for and use your IBM email address. Registration will close two business days prior to the first class.

Withdrawal - If you need to withdraw from the course after registering, please send us an email at least 3 days prior to the start of the first class so that your seat can be offered to one of your colleagues on the waitlist.

Completion

Learners must attend at least 80 percent of scheduled time for satisfactory completion of the course.
