The Center For Adult Learning

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide low-cost instruction to adults who want to learn or improve reading, writing, math, or computer skills, obtain a GED, and/or learn English as a second language.

Program Philosophy

We believe that possessing good literacy skills has a positive impact on the individual, the family, the community, and the nation at large.  Literacy is linked to economic, psychological, and social well-being, and therefore we work toward the goal of literacy for all adults.

Services

The Center for Adult Learning offers GED Preparation; basic reading, writing and math; and English as a Second Language classes to adults 17 and over.  If you are interested in taking a class, please call to schedule an appointment for testing and registration. Registration and assessment testing takes approximately 30 minutes for ESL students and 3½ hours for GED students. Test scores determine class levels and schedules. Morning and evening classes are available.  A fee of $20.00 per semester usually covers the cost of registration, testing, and class tuition for all classes.

Textbooks

GED books are available for sale in the FRCC Bookstore, located in the Long's Peak Student Center. Complete GED Preparation is $20 and GED Mathematics is $17.50. Inquire at the CAL office about availability of other texts.

Ready to take your GED?

The Official GED test is given at the CSU Testing Center, located in the Clark Bldg., Room C81.  The cost is $65.00, and the test takes approximately 8½ hours. (It is not necessary to finish in one day.) Call 491-6498 for an appointment and further information.  The Center for Adult Learning highly recommends taking a Practice GED Test prior to taking the actual test.
